Enjoy An Espresso At Eataly Roma Termini Before The Train

A new spot for espresso and pastry opened in Eataly Roma Termini that you should check out for breakfast or simply a quiet respite during your busy morning.

Eataly Roma Termini - Early Morning Breakfast

On most occasions there is nothing better than an espresso when you arrive in Termini Station in Rome. However, the recent addition of Eataly Roma Tremini near the entrance of the station gives a traveler a breakfast option on the way into the station.

If you didn’t have enough time for some breakfast at home before heading out to the station, Eataly has a great selection of pastries and sandwiches to pair with your espresso drinks. My favorite is a cornetto with a cappuccino,so on my recent visit, that is what I did.

Eataly History

The Eataly brand was born by bringing together a group of small companies that work in different sectors of food and wine:

  • The famous durum wheat pasta of Gragnano
  • Piedmontese egg pasta
  • Piedmontese and Veneto wine
  • The oil of the Western Ligurian Riviera
  • Piedmontese Fassona beef
  • Traditional Italian cured meats and cheeses

Since its inception, with the opening of the first store in Turin in 2007, Eataly has offered the best of artisanal products at reasonable prices thanks to the creation of a direct relationship between producer and distributor, and inspired by key activities such as sustainability, responsibility and sharing.

If you were already familiar with Eataly, you probably know them in the US as a high quality Italian specialty food store. This is the same, for the most part in Italy. This coffee bar in Termini is one of the exceptions.

Eataly Roma Termini Atmosphere And Design

The feel of this coffee show is, of course, the same as the existing Eataly stores around Italy and the US. There is a simplicity driven by their breakfast and sandwich only offerings, which allow for a long bar on which to enjoy your breakfast.

You can also grab a seat, enjoy your meal and wait until your train arrives. If you are there early enough there shouldn’t be any problem getting a seat. Closer to rush-hour, however, is a different story that might require some standing.

The ambiance is something I would describe as: transient. There is a temporary feel that goes perfectly well with the location being so close to the train tracks. You grab a little something, wait until the track announcement for your train and then you head out.

I think the appeal of a place like this is the brand. Eataly is growing in popularity and people know what to expect when they enter, and in a word, that is: Quality. Eataly provides a wide range of pastries and sandwiches, along with some delicious and quality Lavazza coffee.

Eataly Roma Termini - Friendly Service

The menu highlights are the freshness and completeness of the pastries that you can expect in Rome. Enjoy a Cornetto empty or filled, a Saccottino or other Italian favorites. The sandwiches are simple, but a perfect choice if you plan on eating on the train. Nothing too smelly, nothing to be refrigerated and all delicious.

Practical Information For Tourists

  • Hours: The restaurant is open daily from 6 AM until 10 PM
  • Location: The restaurant can be found on the first floor (remember, that is one floor above ground level) right upon entering the station from the via Giovanni Giolitti side. The closest escalator is on the right.
  • How to Order: Like many bars in Rome, you first approach the cashier (Cassa) and place your order. If it isn’t busy, I usually wait at the bar for the order to be filled.
  • Peak Hours: Being so tied to the commuter schedule, typical rush hours will be the busiest time in the station and in the restaurant.

Is Eataly Roma Termini Worth a Visit?

I feel like the tone of this review is generally positive, and that is how you should take it. We’ve been there on multiple occasions and we have enjoyed ourselves. That said, on a recent visit the elevator remained blocked well after the restaurant was open. This forced us to find another way up to the first floor to reach it.

Also, and this only happened once, my cappuccino tasted a little off. What I mean is that the milk froth had a sour aftertaste. Given their volume of customers, this seemed unlikely to be an inventory turnover problem. Since we were among the first customers of the day, maybe something was left out, or there was a refrigeration problem. I don’t know and it only happened once.
