Let My Pellini Coffee Review Be Your Guide To Flavor
I’ve enjoyed Pellini coffee for a while and this review will help you decide if it might be an option if you are looking for a new Italian coffee to try.
One of the joys of living in Italy is how easy it is to try new and different coffees from all around the country. Even within Rome, there are many different roasters with distinctly different, but enjoyable flavors. Sometimes it is as easy as grabbing a different coffee at your local grocery store because you just felt like it, and Pellini was such a decision.
A few years back, we owned an ecommerce site that sold Italian coffee and once we tried Pellini, we knew that our customers would enjoy it and likely come back for more. We were right, but once we shut down the business in order to move to Italy, I wasn’t sure when we would cross paths again, so you can imagine my surprise when I found one of their coffee variations available at my local grocery store.
Is Pellini A Good Coffee Brand?
As I mentioned, we taste tested all the coffees we sold on our old website and Pellini really does make a tasty coffee. For this reason, I wanted to review and give some additional background on Pellini and one blend in particular, the PELLINI N°42 Traditional.
Which Coffee Did I Review?
I chose to review the Pellini No. 42 Traditional (PELLINI N°42 Tradizionale), which is a coffee specifically ground for a Moka with, as Pellini describes it: “a vigorous and characterful aroma”. The strong roasting enhances its intense taste and classic Italian aroma. The coffee beans are chosen while still in their countries of origin and protectively packaged for shipping. The No. 42 Traditional is a classic blend of a balance between the fine qualities of the Arabica and Robusta beans. The beans are then strongly roasted and naturally air-cooled, left to rest in special silos before being packaged.
Where Is Pellini Coffee Made?
The Pellini Caffè has been roasting their beans since 1922 out of their roasteries in Bussolengo, which is in northern Italy near Verona.
Does Pellini Offer Other Coffees?
Yes, Pellini offers a wide range of coffees, which includes their well-known and popular: Pellini Top. Here is a complete list of their coffees, most of which are ground specifically for a moka:
- PELLINI TOP – 100% Arabica coffee. Refined aroma, sweet and delicate flavor to be appreciated especially without sugar. The fragrance of the coffee is kept inside the jar, releasing all the flavor of the particular and unmistakable aroma when opened.
- PELLINI TOP DECAFFEINATED – 100% Arabica coffee that has an elegant and structured taste, intense and enveloping aroma.
- PELLINI BIO (Organic) – Fine qualities of 100% Arabica from organic farming in the tropical belt. The farmers’ attention to the preservation of organic cultivation makes PELLINI BIO superior in aroma and taste.
- PELLINI N°1 Vellutato (Velvety) – Ground for Espresso Makers that results in elegant and velvety espresso. The medium roasting enhances the harmonious intensity of the best Arabicas. A touch of Robusta emphasizes its character. The selection of the beans is made directly in the countries of origin and packaged in a protective atmosphere.
- PELLINI N°20 Cremoso (Creamy), Ground coffee with a balanced and rounded flavor. The medium roasting defines its good character and aromatic richness.
Why Is Pellini A Quality Coffee?
Pellini boasts of an end-to-end process that results in a high-quality coffee that is delicious and affordable. Their processes for maintaining this high quality are:
- Quality – They check the product before loading and unloading. They also ensure that the shipment has not affected the characteristics of the raw material. The same checks are performed once again when each load is delivered to the company.
- Roasting – If the batch of raw coffee is perfect and the results of all 3 checks match, the roasting phase arrives. Many checks are implemented during roasting and are displayed by a roasting curve to maintain consistency.
- Color – The color of the roasted coffee is also an important characteristic and is scrupulously measured by their quality department.
- Blend – Pellini stands out on the market thanks to its unique and unmistakable coffee blend. This is achieved by combining different well researched single-origin coffees.
- Research – Their dedication to the pursuit of quality has led them to work with “4.0 Technology” in which the operator’s intervention is limited, resulting in a consistent product.
- Grinding – Grinding is the process that defines the final quality of the product, its precision is precisely the characteristic that allows Pellini to customize the types of product suitable for the range of equipment used to prepare cups of particular, unmistakable coffee.
Did I Enjoy The Pellini N°42 Tradizionale?
As I’ve enjoyed different coffees from all over Italy, it becomes more obvious that each city and region have favorite coffees that are quite different. Because Pellini is from the north, it isn’t surprising that this coffee is smooth and not very bitter. It is a relaxing, mellow cup of stovetop espresso that will slowly wake you up and get you going. This isn’t a surprise, but it also isn’t my favorite.
I prefer a stronger, more bitter roast that really wakes my mouth up in the morning, but if you are entertaining guests, this would be a great coffee option. It is affordable and delicious, so I would recommend it if it is the style that you prefer. If you don’t know your style, give it a try and see how enjoyable it is.
