illy India Coffee Will Start Your Morning With Flavor
illy India coffee is something I recently became aware of when I bought a can of illy’s Arabica Selection from India here in Rome and you need to check it out.
Which Country Brand Is illy India Coffee?
As you might imagine coming from a blog called Coffee In Italia, illycaffè was founded in Trieste, Italy in 1933 and is an Italian family-owned company that has grown to offer their selection of coffees in 140 countries around the world. You will probably be able to find illy coffee in your local grocery store, but possibly not every variety.
Why Is illy Coffee So Good?
If you like a smoother espresso, you will enjoy illy because the 100% arabica beans that they use offer a less bitter taste than those that use Robusta beans. Do not interpret the use of Robusta beans as a negative, because many quality roasters here in Italy use a blend of beans, but illy doesn’t, and if that smoother flavor is what you prefer, then illy is the roaster for you.
Is illy A Luxury Brand?
I wouldn’t call illy a “luxury” brand, or even a specialty coffee, but it is a little more expensive both here in Italy as well as in the US. I would consider some “artisan” or small-batch roasters more in the luxury category, but illy is a smooth, balanced coffee that doesn’t have the bitter quality that is available with coffees that cost less. I don’t consider the bitter flavor as a negative, but just another variety of roasting that makes coffee in Italy so amazing and varied.
What Is The illy India Coffee
Illy’s Arabic Selection India is a continuation of the single origin coffee product line-up, which includes others from Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala and India. When you taste one of these single origin coffees, you are getting the true, unblended flavors of the highest quality coffee from each of the areas around the world.
I bought this Arabic Selection India because of a tip from a friend and I am very happy he suggested it. I wasn’t familiar with coffee from India as my preconceived notion was that India only focused on teas, but I was definitely wrong. I take my coffee black and brewed in a Moka and I was pleasantly surprised by the intensity of this coffee, but still restrained in the manner on which illy has built their reputation. As is common with a darker roasted bean, the coffee notes from this coffee from India include black pepper and dark chocolate. If you like a lot of flavor, then this illy India coffee night is for you.
Where Is Arabica Grown In India?
Coffee in India is grown in three regions, which include:
The traditional coffee region of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu
The new areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on the eastern coast
The northeastern area, known as the “Seven Sisters”, which includes: Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh
Arabica coffee beans grow at a higher altitude than Robusta, which Arabica growing at between 1,000 m and 1,500 m above sea level, and from 500 m to 1,000 m above sea level for Robusta.
Which Coffee Is Better, Arabica Or Robusta In India?
It is important to understand that which coffee bean is better is strictly a matter of taste. The Arabica beans are smoother and more expensive, but with less caffeine. The Robusta beans are less expensive, are stronger in flavor and have more caffeine. While illy prefers to use 100% Arabica beans, many coffee roasters prefer a blend of Robusta and Arabica to take the best of both worlds and minimize the less desirable aspects of the other.
